Soon-Jo Chung directs Caltech’s Autonomous Robotics and Control Lab. The laboratory brings together control, estimation, learning, and planning for autonomous systems operating on the ground, in the air, and in space.[2]
His research includes aerospace robotics, distributed spacecraft, and autonomous vehicles. The work combines mathematical methods with robotic experiments, with an emphasis on control and navigation under uncertain conditions.[1]
Chung joined Caltech in 2016 after faculty appointments at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. His Caltech record lists the Bren professorship from 2019 and his JPL senior research appointment from 2022.[1]
